Allergische reacties op oncolytica zijn veelvoorkomend. Desensitisatie is een procedure waarbij tijdelijke tolerantie kan worden geïnduceerd voor geneesmiddelen die eerder hypersensitiviteitsreacties induceerden. Succesvolle desensitisatieprocedures met chemotherapeutica en biologicals kunnen ervoor zorgen dat patiënten de eerste keuze therapie kunnen blijven ontvangen. In dit overzichtsartikel wordt ingegaan op de achtergrond van hypersensitiviteitsreacties en desensitisatietherapie. Aan de hand van casuïstiek worden verschillende hypersensitiviteitsreacties en hierop volgende succesvolle desensitisatiebehandelingen geïllustreerd.
