Elke medische behandeling begint met het stellen van de juiste diagnose. Deze diagnose ligt echter niet altijd meteen voor de hand. Zoals bij de volgende casus:
Een 37-jarige man werd opgenomen op de afdeling Hematologie voor behandeling met CAR-T-cellen in verband met een Burkitt-lymfoom. Negen maanden eerder presenteerde hij zich met geïsoleerde pathologische lymfadenopathie in de linker axilla. Bij aanvullend onderzoek bleek sprake van een Burkitt-lymfoom, stadium IA, hoog risico op basis van een tumormassa van meer dan 7 cm en een verhoogd LDH (261 U/l). BL-IPI was laag. Er was geen liquorlokalisatie.
